Allergy Testing Explained: Skin Prick Tests, Blood Tests and Who Needs Them

Har chhink ko “allergy” bol dena asaan hai, lekin kabhi real trigger pata hi nahi chalta. Allergy testing ka aim ye hi hai – identify karna ki kaun se specific substance se body overreact kar rahi hai.

Common tests me skin prick test aata hai. Forearm ya back pe tiny drops of suspected allergens (dust mite, pollen, food, animal dander, etc.) rakhe jaate hain, phir skin ko halkasa prick kiya jata hai. Agar kisi spot pe redness + small bump develop hota hai, wo potential allergy signal ho sakta hai.

Blood tests (like specific IgE levels) bhi available hote hain, useful for some cases—jaise jab skin test possible na ho, ya severe reaction ka risk ho.

Sabko allergy testing ki zarurat nahi. Yeh zyada helpful hota hai jab:

  • Symptoms long-term aur repeat ho rahe ho (sneezing fits, wheeze, rashes, food reactions).
  • Ya suspected trigger clear na ho.
  • Ya strong reaction (like suspected anaphylaxis) ke baad future planning karni ho.

Self-testing kits ya random panel tests bina proper history ke kara lena sometimes confusing results de sakta hai. Allergist/immunologist symptoms + tests ko combine karke samjhata hai ki kya clinically relevant hai, kya sirf lab ka number.

Testing ka goal hai triggers ko samajhna, avoidance plan banana, aur kabhi-kabhi desensitisation therapy consider karna—not bas ek long scary list create karna.
