Antibiotics: When They’re Truly Needed and Why Overuse Is a Problem

Antibiotic ko log universal “strong medicine” samajh lete hain—fever hai, cold hai, throat dard hai, bas ek course start. Problem ye hai ki antibiotics sirf bacterial infections pe kaam karte hain, viral problems pe nahi. Sardi-zukaam, flu, majority sore throats actually viral hote hain.

Jab unnecessary antibiotics repeatedly liye jaate hain, to bacteria adapt ho ke resistant ho jaate hain. Aage chal ke jab genuine serious infection ho, tab normal drugs kaam nahi aate. Ye sirf individual ka nahi, pura community ka issue ban jata hai.

Doctors antibiotics tab likhte hain jab:

  • Infection clearly bacterial lag raha ho,
  • Ya case severe/ high-risk group ka ho,
  • Ya tests se confirm ho gaya ho.

Course ko half-way better feel hote hi band kar dena bhi galat hai, kyunki kuch bacteria bache reh sakte hain jo phir se multiply hoke aur stubborn ban jaate hain.

Side effects bhi ignore nahi karne chahiye—stomach upset, allergy, yeast infections, gut flora disturbance etc.

Safer approach: har fever pe chemist se strong tablet uthana band karo. First line me rest, hydration, simple fever control, aur observation. Agar symptoms pattern se viral lag rahe hain, doctor bhi avoid kar sakta hai. Jab woh specifically bole ki “ye antibiotic zaruri hai”, tab hi use karo, aur full course as advised complete karo.
